    Description

    Here is a vintage Ritchie compass in a high quality wood box that includes the gimble mechanism. This compass is designed to be used in the existing box. The lid of the box is attached by two levers so that it can be raised and slid to the back of the box. The lid is not removed but to use the compass it is raised and moved to the rear of the box. This is a self contained unit ready to use. There are two deviation adjusting knobs used to compensate for any magnetic items near the compass. E. S. Ritchie & Son is the premier American maker of high quality compasses. The company started in 1850 and is still in business today The wood box measures 8 1/4" by 8 1/4" by 7 1/8" high. It weighs 13 pounds.
