Description
This early example of a Harry Pedler & Sons "ART" cornet was most likely made in the late 1930's, according to its serial number (#237xx). Designed by Gus Buescher, the ART models were the Pedler company's higher end models. This instrument is in reasonably good condition overall. The bell flare needs to be straightened and there's a small dent in the bell bow (please see pictures), but otherwise there are no signs of significant damage. The lacquer is original but shows some wear. The slides are frozen but appear undamaged, and the valves work freely.
The Buescher case may not be original to the cornet, but it's from the same time period and also in reasonably good condition, with the handle, latches and hinges all working as they should. There is no structural damage to the wood of the case, but it does show signs of cosmetic wear consistent with age.
Pedler ART cornets are hard to find, so this would be great as a collectible or as a prime piece for restoration. Grab it while you can!
