Description
This Conn silver plated “opera glass” cornet was made in 1921 according to its serial number (#181XXX) and it’s in good condition. It has a number of small dents on the bell throat but all are minor. The valves work well and all of the slides pull nicely. The silver plating is tarnished but we see no worn or thin spots and we think it will polish up well. There is evidence that all three of the bell braces have been resoldered on the bell side, but otherwise we see no signs of any significant previous damage or repair. The gold wash in the bell is still present but tarnished. This cornet also features the Bb/A quick change mechanism which also works well. We have run this cornet through our professional brasswind shop to make sure it’s in good, playable condition. The case is original to the instrument and in good condition with no damage to the wood and only minor age-related wear. It’s very cool, with little compartment and spaces to fit all of the accessories that originally came with this instrument. The handle, latches and hinges all work as they should.
The sale of this cornet will include all of the accessories pictured: 3 slide extensions, lyre, and mouthpiece.
All reasonable offers considered.
