I am not a photography expert. I'm a novice photographer but have not developed or even shot a roll of film for over 20 years!
But I am able to spot a decent lens when I see it. -And I've seen some real nasty looking lenses here on FEEbay! Like fungus and scratched, filthy stuff that would really not be worth using (if you wanted any kind of quality prints)!
I really hate to criticize other sellers' stuff but I'm sure you know what I mean if you are looking at this item...
OK - Had to get that out of the way.
This lens came to me with a lot of several enlarging lenses. Most are Schneider Componon-S which I'll be listing in the next few days.
All came from University of Iowa Medical Center and are in great condition.
This Leitz 50mm was in a half box, wrapped in paper. It looks great except for a little "ding" on the front (right before "Focotar" -see pic). The optics look clear to me except for a bit of dust. The aperture looks good and works well and is smooth. The M39 threads are good without any damage and screwed smoothly onto an M39 lens board/mount with no kinks or binding.
Please have a look at the pics and judge for yourself the quality and condition of the lens ~ "a picture is worth a thousand words"...
When I was cropping, editing and selecting my pic's, I realized that I didn't have any full open aperture pic's to get a good look at the condition of the optics. I left two spots open so I'll be adding view from front and back of lens.
UPDATE: I added two pic's, #3 & 4, closeup of lens with aperture fully open. There is a bit of dust visible and a tiny piece of lint or strand of fabric too. Also viewable through the lens is the rim of the small Pyrex beaker that I used for shooting pic's (don't mistake the rim of beaker for a flaw or damage to lens.
IMO this lens is in exceptional condition. I would have cleaned with more than a bulb but didn't want to take chance of scratching surface. I wrapped it back up and put lens back in the half-box that I received it in. -Thx!
